We are deeply guided by the enduring principles of Native American Lena Doctor Tiger. Her compassion, grace, kindness, and generosity were powerful virtues that uplifted both individuals and entire communities. Through her quiet strength, she gave selflessly—always helping others without expecting anything in return.
Lena fostered empathy, healing, and human decency in a world that so deeply needs it. Her legacy lives on in us. We are truly committed to carrying forward her spirit, united in purpose, and devoted to being a beacon of hope in times of need.
Before the foundation became Disaster Sources Lena D. Tiger Foundation, it was known as Victims Helping Victims, an organization built on compassion, advocacy, and community service. Our founder received the Jeb Bush Award for Community Service, the Florida Department of Health Award for Health and Outreach, and recognition from the NAACP for outstanding service during Hurricane Wilma. Through partnerships with Modern Age Furniture, Walmart, FPL, and community leaders, we helped families recover by providing furniture, emergency assistance, and safer living conditions for displaced residents.
Today, Disaster Sources Lena D. Tiger Foundation continues that legacy by providing free hurricane and winter supplies, food boxes for families in need, and hot meals for individuals experiencing homelessness. Through community partnerships and generous donors, we remain committed to helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
